have a positive impact on psychological well being. People today
do not have to settle for stained, chipped or misshapen teeth. Cosmetic
dentistry can straighten crooked teeth without having to wear braces

and beauty and it can replace missing teeth to give a natural, younger
look. It is a fast, effective, and painless way to restore teeth
and it can preserve healthy gums and improve tooth strength. There
are a number of options for improving a smile.
Q.
WHAT ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF COSMETIC DENTISTRY?
A:
Some common cosmetic dentistry techniques include the following:
Bleaching
Bonding
Veneers
Q:
WHAT IS BLEACHING?
A:
Bleaching
is a technique that brightens teeth that are discolored, stained,
or have been darkened because of injury. Bleaching, a popular and
convenient form of whitening, is designed so it can be done at home.
This technique is known as nightguard bleaching. The dentist fabricates
a custom fitted mouthguard that holds the bleaching gel. The amount
of time per evening the nightguard is worn and the treatment duration
may vary according to the needs of the patient and the dentist's
recommendations. Although the average treatment may take several
weeks, one may notice results after a few days.
Q:
WHAT IS BONDING?
A:
Bonding
is a procedure in which tooth-colored materials are applied to the
surface of a tooth. Bonding covers discolorations, repairs chips,
breaks and cracks and fills in gaps. Of the different cosmetic techniques,
bonding material is less expensive than crowns or veneers but the
life expectancy of bonding is shorter than crowns or veneers. However,
it is a virtually painless procedure that is usually completed in
one visit.
Q:
WHAT ARE VENEERS?
A.
Veneers are a thin custom-made shell made of tooth colored porcelain
that is designed to cover the front side of the tooth. Like crowns,
a dental laboratory fabricates them. Veneers can make uneven teeth
even, make stained teeth appear white, fill in gaps between teeth,
and make broken teeth appear whole. Even though veneers are a thin
covering, they are extremely strong and durable.
